After an acrimonious departure from “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2007, actor Isaiah Washington will be back to reprise his role as Dr. Preston Burke for one episode of the ABC medical drama.

Citing The Hollywood Reporter as the source, Entertainment Tonight reports that the 50-year-old actor will appear as a guest star in a May episode.
“Dr. Burke (Washington) was at one point engaged to marry Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh), but just prior to the announcement that Washington was returning, Oh revealed that she's leaving Grey's this May after 10 seasons,” reports ET.
“Showrunner Shonda Rimes justifies Washington's return, explaining, ‘It’s important to me that Cristina's journey unfolds exactly as it should. Burke is vital to that journey -- he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang."
Rimes fired Washington from the show in 2007 after he made anti-gay comments directed at co-star, T.R. Knight, who has also since left the show. ET reports Knight “was in the closet at the time but subsequently came out as gay. Washington later apologized for his comments.”
