The Milwaukee Brewers have 30 games left in what has beena wire-to-wire high-wire act of leading the National League Central.
The Brewers currently lead the NL Central by 1.5 games over a looming St. Louis Cardinals club which historically performs at its best in September and October. (Click here for the full NL playoff picture in our Run to the Playoffs page.)
When asked whether there was a magic number of wins the Brewers needed to make sure they can clinch the division title, 620WTMJ Brewers voice Joe Block gave as accurate of an answer as he could considering the wild race that has ensued: "One more than everybody else."
"There's really no way to figure it out right now. We've seen every team get hot, get cold, both things in the same week most often...no team has really gone red hot and really run away with things."
As for what the main competitors - St. Louis and the Pittsburgh Pirates - bring with factors that are out of the Brewers' control, he said, "The only variable is if Pittsburgh can stay healthy enough, and will the Cardinals can get 'too healthy' so to speak down the stretch, because it looks like they'll get Molina and Wacha back down the stretch in September."
