Some sad news came for Marquette basketball fans on Monday.

As reported by TODAY'S TMJ4's Lance Allan:

A Marquette spokesman said he passed away after a heart attack and stroke on Tuesday morning.  He was with family when he passed.

According to, Rosenberger averaged 7.3 points per game in the 1977 NCAA championship season.

CNN says that Rosenberger worked in the mortgage industry before retiring in Florida.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Gary's family during this difficult time. Gary obviously played a critical role during the team's run to the national title in 1977, but his contributions to the University continued well after his graduation. It's always tough to lose a former player, especially one who has passed away well before his time," said spokesman Mike Broeker in a statement.

Memorials are planned in both Milwaukee and Orlando.
