Friday training camp notes from Packers practice

By Aron Yohannes. CREATED Aug 1, 2014

We’re now on Day 6 of Training Camp for the Green Bay Packers. The team held their last morning 8:20 a.m. session of practice Friday before they hold their Family Night scrimmage inside of Lambeau Field Saturday.

Two new players were added to the injury report, and another tight end on the team’s roster had a strong showing throughout practice. Here’s more from our practice notebook today:

Jared Abbrederis, Corey Linsley added to injury list

Rookies Jared Abbrederis and Corey Linsley both watched practice Friday from the sidelines without wearing pads. Abbrederis performed well during the off-season program on special teams, while Linsley recently moved up to the No.2 spot on the Packers’ depth chart at center. Head coach Mike McCarthy said after practice that Abbrederis missed today’s session due to a knee injury, while Linsley missed time because of a shoulder. It’s unclear whether or not they’ll gear up for tomorrow night.

Brandon Bostick impresses once again

Much of the talk this off-season for Green Bay’s tight end position has been about rookie Richard Rodgers … and Jermichael Finley (who isn’t even on the team’s roster). Yet today, a lot of talk was about Newberry product Brandon Bostick who continues his strong play this week. Bostick made some mistakes – including a fumble during the four-minute drill that was caused by cornerback Jarret Bush – but he made more plays to offset them.

One of those plays came on a box out over Bush in the end zone for a score. Later, he outstretched and hauled in a pass from Aaron Rodgers to cross the pylon once again. This is a pretty good week for a guy competing in a crowded tight end group.

Morgan Burnett returns

After being held out of practice the last two days (ankle), safety Morgan Burnett returned to the field Friday. Burnett was back in his usual spot opposite of Micah Hyde during plays with the first-team defense. Overall, Burnett looked to be fine. Showing no limps, and he didn’t even wear anything such as a protective brace to aid his injury.

Other notes:

Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix had his right ankle taped up while the team was going through red zone drills. It’s unclear how he sustained the injury or if it’s considered serious.

Rookie Davante Adams had a very nice day with Matt Flynn under center. Adams scored two red zone touchdowns while hauling passes from Flynn, including one down the seam, and another near the sidelines.

The highlight play for today (in my opinion) came from Eddie Lacy as he ran over cornerback Tramon Williams. Lacy bounced to the outside after an inside hand-off and met Williams before smashing through him.

Kicker Mason Crosby went 7-of-8 on long-distance kicks today. The distances for those  made kicks were: 53, 50, 45, 43, 36, and two from 33.  His only miss came on a 40-yarder. Crosby is 14-of-16 from long-distance in camp so far. Side note: Randall Cobb was the placeholder for four of his kicks today.

Demetri Goodson made a great leaping deflection off a pass from Scott Tolzien. Casey Hayward also made a great knock down today on a Rodgers pass across the middle.
