A New Chance To Binge-Watch A Freshly Released TV Classic
"Hill Street Blues" broke the mold.
There was nothing like the NBC cop drama which revolutionized the genre and set the template for other hit series like "NYPD Blue", "LA Law" and "St. Elsewhere". Never before had we seen such a large cast of regulars, so many simultaneous story lines, so much grit, so much realism. They got into topics that were previously taboo in prime time.
Captain Furillo, played by Kenosha's Daniel J. Travanti, headed up a cast of mostly-unknown players who, in some cases, went on to bigger and better things as a result of their TV time in a fictional big-city police district.
"Hill Street" ended in 1987 after seven seasons. Now, it's back on DVD for the first time. Why the delay, I don't know but I, for one, am glad it's back. It'll be fun to see how the show holds up some 30 years after it changed the network landscape for the better.
