Does Cleveland Really Rock?
Whenever I think of Cleveland, I inevitably think about one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" movies "Howard the Duck" - which was set in (but not filmed in) Cleveland. No, you don't have to waste your time watching the movie, you can trust me - the duck from outer space landed in Cleveland!
What a surprise that the movie bombed. Maybe if they had used real Cleveland locations things would have been different?
I hadn't thought about Cleveland for awhile until a couple of days ago when a colleague turned me on to two mock tourism ads about Cleveland. You can view them here and here. WARNING: They are pretty funny but there is some adult content.
Anyway, it now appears that Cleveland is on the fast track to host the 2016 Republican Convention. Cleveland.
As an aside, the one Republican National Convention that I attended was in San Diego in 1996. Let's think about this: Cleveland or San Diego? I think I came out ahead on that deal.
Some are saying that being chosen for the 2016 GOP convention indicates that Cleveland has turned itself around. Others might suggest that the choice has more to do with the role Ohio will lay in the 2016 Presidential election than anything else.
During the 2 p.m. hour of Wednesday's radio show, we'll discuss whether Milwaukee should aspire to be the next Cleveland - and what exactly that means? I mean, if Cleveland can attract a huge political convention, why not Mlwaukee?
