A Not So Silent Night
I guess it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Prior to a December 12th middle school concert in Long Island, school officials rewrote the lyrics to Silent Night. In reality, they removed the most significant religious lines "to represent the song without offering offense to people of other faith".
No "Holy Infant". No "Christ the Savior". No "Jesus, Lord at thy birth".
Needless to say, parents are outraged that school officials would rewrite one of the greatest sacred hymns of all time.
During the 12 p.m. hour of today's show, we'll discuss whether this is a legitimate effort to avoid offending people or is instead the latest example of the temporary insanity that infects some people each Christmas.
