Today's Worst Person In The World: Adam Smith Of Tucson
Since Keith Olbermann no longer has a gig (again), let me fill the void with my nomination for today's "Worst Person in the World".
Up until yesterday, Adam Smith was the Chief Financial Officer at Vante, a medical manufacturing firm in Tucson, Arizona. Before working for Vante, Smith was a Senior Finance Manager at IBM. He has a business degree and an MBA from the University of Arizona.
In other words, he should have known better.
Outraged at the comments of the CEO of Chick-fil-A opposing gay marriage, Smith decided to take matters into his own hands on Wednesday.
First, he pulled into a Chick-fil-A drive thru and ordered a cup of water. When he got to the window, Smith decided to berate the young woman who gave him his free water. Among other things, he told the employee that he didn't understand how she could live with herself for working for "a horrible corporation with horrible values" that "gives money to hate groups".
Did I mention that Smith also took a video of he entire confrontation and posted it on YouTube!
After the video went viral, Smith and his employer came to a "mutual" decision that he should resign. In other words, "Hey psycho, don't let the door hit you on the way out".
I understand that some people become completely unhinged when it comes to issues like this. Still, there's no excuse for someone like Smith to berate some young woman who's doing nothing but working at the drive-thru window. Plus, it's not like this guy is a homeless hippie or Tucson's version of Madison's "Pippi Bongstocking".
He should have known better! He didn't though - so now he's out of a job. A fitting punishment for today's "Worst Person in the World".
