SAUKVILLE - Loved ones are mourning the loss of three young people Wednesday after a car crash in the Town of Saukville.
Nicholas Snow, 25, was pronounced dead several hours after the car he was driving struck several trees and split in two. Stephen Miller, 23, and Jayme Ceplina, 21, died at the scene. Flowers and a cross were found at the crash scene Wednesday morning.
The crash happened in a dark and rural area, just before 11:00 p.m. Monday night, at the intersection of Hawthorne Road and County Highway I near the Hawthorne Hills Golf Course.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Department says that the car was going east on Hawthorne Road and missed a stop at Highway I.
The car went into a nearby service road. Snow lost control, the car struck several trees and split the car into two pieces.
Ceplina had just finished up her time in the Marines. Her mom Donna said those three were at her house playing pool until about 10:30 Monday night before they hit the road.
Ceplina's family is understandably too shaken up to go on camera, but Jayme reportedly told her mom before she left, "mom, you're the greatest."
Jayme's mother said it felt like minutes later the deputies were at her door with the news.
Stephen Miller's friend Jeff was visibly shaken when he left flowers at the scene of the crash.
"He was outgoing and just was cheerful. He would help anybody. He was a smart man, just very energetic," said Jeff to TODAY'S TMJ4. "He loved life."
Investigators believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors. An investigation is ongoing.
