Packers cut roster down to 53 on Saturday

Welcome to cut day in the NFL!

The Packers and the rest of the teams have to have their rosters down to 53 players by 3 p.m. on Saturday, and Ted Thompson and company are already busy at work.

Here is a list of players who have reportedly been released by the Packers today:

S Chris Banjo
WR Kevin Dorsey
LB Jake Doughty
T John Fullington
C Garth Gerhart
WR Alex Gillett
DT Carlos Gray
RB Michael Hill
LB Adrian Hubbard
G Jordan McCray
S Tanner Miller
TE Justin Perillo
RB LaDarius Perkins
DE Luther Robinson
CB Jumal Rolle
T Jeremy Vujnovich
WR Myles White
CB Ryan White

The most noteworthy situation the Packers addressed on Saturday is their back-up quarterback spot. Because of the number of players placed on injured reserve, Ted Thompson and company were able to keep both Matt Flynn and Scott Tolzien to deputize for Aaron Rodgers.

At wide receiver, Kevin Dorsey, Alex Gillett and Myles White were all released. All showed impressive glimpses of potential during training camp, but weren't able to beat out rooke Jeff Janis for the team's fifth-spot in its receiving corps.

Safety Chris Banjo and cornerback Jumal Rolle were released. Banjo impressed on special teams while Rolle was productive in coverage during the preseason. Instead, the Packers opted to keep sixth-round pick Demetri Goodson as the team's sixth cornerback.

The Packers kept just eight offensive lineman, but that will likely change at some point. The team is already hosting former Redskins tackle Adam Gettis for a visit tomorrow and is looking to add depth with injuries to Don Barclay and J.C. Tretter. Rookie Corey Linsley will start the season at center in place of Tretter.
