Police: Shorewood is an 'easy target'

SHOREWOOD - Shorewood Police sent out an alert about a daytime burglary that happened Monday, on the 2400 block of Newton Avenue.

The burglars broke a window, climbed in and stole stuff from the house. The last two burglaries in Shorewood have been in the daytime, and have been forced entry, according to the Shorewood Police Department.

Police sent out another alert Tuesday evening detailing yet another crime - this time, an armed robbery. It happened just after 7:00 p.m. Tuesday near N. Murray Avenue and E. Marion Street. Two male suspects approached a juvenile female and demanded her property at gunpoint.

In the past year, there has been a rash of burglaries where the homeowner left a door or window, or even the garage door, open or unlocked. So our viewers wanted to know, is this "forced entry" an escalation in crime?
Lieutenant Schmidt from the Shorewood Police Department said criminals talk to each other, and "the word is out - Shorewood is an easy target". He says this is a good time to talk to your neighbors and make sure everyone is keeping their doors and windows locked, even during the daytime. Especially since the daytime is when most of the burglaries occur in Shorewood.
