Industrial waste company moves to Menomonee Falls

By Todd Hicks. CREATED Jan 15, 2014 - UPDATED: Jan 20, 2014

UPDATE 7:26 a.m.: An industrial waste and disposal company planning to move from Milwaukee to Menomonee Falls may have to wait.

The Journal Sentinel reports that the Menomonee Falls village attorney will have the plan commission review the relocation proposal.

For years Advance Waste Services has received complaints about bad smells coming from their facility. People in Menomonee Falls are worried about that happening near their homes.

MENOMONEE FALLS - Rachel Bettermann from Menomonee Falls contacted TODAY'S TMJ4 after hearing ChemWorks planned to relocate next door to the subdivision where she lives.

The industrial waste and disposal company will move from a facility on Milwaukee's Westside, to a location in Menomonee Falls.
Neighbors who live next to the current plant say they're happy the occasional strange odors will be gone shortly.
But neighbors like Bettermann say they're outraged the company would relocate close to a residential neighborhood.
"I know these companies have to exist, but why are you coming right next to where families live? children play, to me it doesn't make sense." She said.
Advanced Waste Services owns ChemWorks. Company Vice President William Christel said they intend on listening to neighbors concerns and pledged to be a good neighbor. He added they are excited about their expansion plans.
The Director of Community Development with the Village of Menomonee Falls, Matt Carran did not respond to a phone call and email surrounding neighbors concerns.
The company will co-host a meeting with the village on January 30th, 2014 at the Menomonee Falls Town Hall. It will start at 6:30 pm.
