DOTYVILLE - A proposed shakeup in fees for snowmobile riders is stirring up controversy on both sides.
Pending legislation, if passed, would impose a two-tier fee system for riders.
Snowmobile club members would pay around $15, while non-members would pay about $35 for a trail pass.
Steve Ditter supports the changes. He's the President of the Fond du Lac County Snowmobile Association. He said when you figure in club dues and the trail pass, nearly everyone would end up paying about the same.
"Were just asking for parity so the people riding the snowmobile trails all pay the same amount and that's what the legislation does." said Ditter.
He said the money is needed to help groom and maintain the trail system.
Others like Patrick Schmutzer are against the legislation. He said it penalizes riders who don't want to belong to a snowmobile club.
"The people that are just your 88-percent of normal snowmobilers are getting penalized from this bill." Said Schmutzer.
If the legislation passes, it would go into effect sometime in 2015.
