MILWAUKEE - An intersection just completed is now under construction again. A viewer named Curtis wanted to know – what’s going on?
It's orange barrels as far as the eye can see on Watertown Plank Road near the medical complex. And drivers are noticing.
"It's absoluely crazy. You can't get across the traffic. It's slow," one driver said.
"It's faster for you to walk than it is for me to come and get you," added another.
No doubt, Watertown Plank is a huge undertaking, and a once-completed piece of Discovery Parkway is actually a big part of it.
"Wauwatosa recently completed opening Discovery Parkway and it connects with Watertown Plank Road. Our construction on Watertown Plank Road is going to impact what they just built," says DOT employee Kurt Flierl.
Here's what happened -- Discovery Parkway was a city project that ran a little behind schedule. Watertown Plank is a DOT project that started early, which meant breaking down that brand new median. It's no extra cost to the taxpayer, just another piece of a very complicated construction puzzle.
"It's a critical detour route when we close Watertown Plank," Flierl says. This connection had to be made. ‘Tosa made the connection and it's a good thing."
Watertown Plank isn't slated to be finished until late next fall.
