GREEN BAY - He grew up in tiny Wautoma, and had to walk on at Wisconsin. But now, Jared Abbrederis gets to play for the Packers, the team that he grew up cheering for.
Understandably, his first day in Green Bay came with a swarm of media, and some nerves.
"It was just awesome to be out there with the guys," Abbrederis says. Bunch of rookies out there, just having fun. So it was a good day just to get acclimated. I mean, there are some things you gotta clean up. But it was fun to get out there."
For most Wisconsin kids, playing for the Badgers and Packers is a dream - something that Abbrederis doesn't take lightly.
"I know I'm blessed, definitely just to have this opportunity. So I mean I definitely don't take it for granted."
And while the rest of his class graduated on Saturday in Madison, Abbrederis was here, in Green Bay. You see, he graduated in December with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies, as an Academic All-Big Ten selection.
For a kid from Wautoma, there's just one way to keep the pressure off this season and perform for the team and the state he loves so much.
"At the end of the day, I'm put on this earth to glorify God and so whether that's playing football, whether that's working some job, I mean, some other job. Whatever I do, I just do it to try and glorify God. I think it definitely takes off the pressure."
