3 republicans vie for seat in state's 6th Congressional District

SHEBOYGAN - "Today I proudly announce my candidacy for Wisconsin's 6th Congressional District," said State Sen. Joe Leibham.

State Senator Leibham from Sheboygan is the latest elected official to throw his name in for the now open 6th Congressional seat.
"I would feel guilty if I didn't take this chance to try and reform our nation," Leibham said.
State Senator Glenn Grothman announced his run even before Representative Petri decided to retire.  State Represenative Duey Stroebel wasn't far behind making his announcement for a run for congress.  That makes three Republicans for what's expected to be a hotly contested August primary race.
"It's been a long time since this seat was open and available, so any politician that's interested in running for Congress in the 6th district knows this may be their last chance for a long time," said political scientist Charles Franklin.
So far Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris is the only Democrat who has officially announced he's running.
"Right now the 6th is looking like one of the most competitive races in the state this year," Franklin said.
