Pizza and chicken spot goes from Blue Ribbon to Dirty Dining

MILWAUKEE - A take out spot on the north side went from Blue Ribbon to Dirty Dining.  Here's what inspectors found.
It's Gianelli's Pizza & Chicken Man on 87th and Fond Du Lac.  It was all clean back in 2010, in fact we gave them a Blue Ribbon Award.  This time around they were fined by the health department for not keeping food at the right temperature.  Ham and diced tomatoes had to be thrown out.  Deep fried chicken was not cooked long enough, and a cooler was running too warm. Raw sausage was more than 10 degrees above the safe cold temperature.  Raw chicken, mushrooms, and taco meat were also affected.
A manager told me, "you're never gonna be perfect."  There were flies in the kitchen.  An employee was touching customers' food without gloves like pizza, onions, and buns.  Lasagna was stored uncovered on moldy shelves.  The entire ceiling was brown with grease, and the restaurant was told to stop using stained and melted plastic containers.
When asked if she was surprised by all the problems the manager said, "I was not here so, I don't know even know all what was on the report."
Also fined this week, Club Carnival on KK just south of Lincoln.  They were storing chicken in grocery bags and also had some food temperature problems.
And with a clean health inspection, Fernando's Mexican Restaurant on Oklahoma near 16th.
