Downtown tapas house has multiple violations

MILWAUKEE - Expired dairy, moldy cheese - here's what else inspectors found in this downtown tapas restaurant.

The restaurant is España Tapas House on North Plankinton Avenue and West Wells Street. There were expired dairy items in the kitchen and bar area, some with expiration dates in July.  Several cheeses were in a cooler the inspector called "extremely moldy."  Seafood was not being thawed correctly and sauces were not held hot enough.
When we stopped by there was no manager or owner to respond to things like dead cockroaches in the basement, including where food is stored. A unit that holds bar glasses had mold on the bottom, and the hand wash sink at the bar, wasn't working.
The restaurant was also ordered to clean the kitchen floor; it was heavily soiled with grease and debris.  We never heard back from anyone at the restaurant about the inspection report.
Also dirty this week was Taqueria Arandas on South 15th Place and West Lincoln Avenue.  We were there three weeks ago and they still haven't cleaned up all the violations.  The health department will do a second re-inspection in September.
And keeping it clean - "The Drive-Thru" on North Avenue, the spot that serves up those made fresh to order mini-donuts and much more.
