Wisconsin-based Epic Systems accused of withholding overtime wages
MADISON (AP) -- A former employee at Verona-based Epic Systems has filed a class-action lawsuit accusing the software company of failing to pay overtime wages.
A Wisconsin State Journal report says the lawsuit was filed Friday on behalf of former employee Evan Nordgren and others. The suit alleges that the company denied overtime pay to him and other employees over a three-year period.
Epic says it believes its workers were properly paid because they're classified as salaried professionals, not hourly workers. It says the lawsuit "is without merit."
The lawsuit says Nordgren and others regularly worked more than 40 hours per week without overtime pay. It says they're not exempt from overtime pay.
The suit estimates the number of people involved could exceed 1,000 employees.
