Vigil held for teen killed in weekend crash

MILWAUKEE -- An emotional vigil was held Tuesday night to remember a 19-year-old man who was killed in an accident early Saturday morning.

On a night when friends and family just wanted to cry, memories of Julian Hicks made them laugh.

Friends say Julian had a promising future in the arts. He was killed just a few yards from home. Police say a drunk driver slammed into his car, causing a fire.

"He had the type of spirit that vibrated positively around everybody around him," said Milwaukee Alderman Ashanti Hamilton. "He enjoyed art, loved art, just outstanding young man."

"I would have given my life, for whatever reason, to try to get him out of that car," explained Milwaukee Police Detective Rodney Young. "But I couldn't."

The other driver has been arrested. The DA is still reviewing the case for charges.
