Two Racine correctional employees arrested for sexual assault of inmate
RACINE - Two correctional facility employees have been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting an inmate at the Racine Correctional Facility.
The Racine County Sheriff's Department was called to the facility in October to investigate the possible sexual contact between employees and an inmate. The inmate admitted he had received a cell phone from a female staff member and had used it to record sexual contact between him and a nurse, Lisa Hawkins and the other staff member.
Hawkins was confronted with a photo from the alleged contact and said the man was another officer, but an investigation found that officer wasn't working the day the photo was taken.
The same inmate said the phone came from another employee, Karina Herrera. He said Herrera allegedly gave him the phone along with nude photos of herself, and made at least one phone call to him. Investigators also found photos of sexual contact between Herrera and the inmate.
Hawkins has been charged with second-degree sexual assault by correctional staff and obstructing an officer. Herrera has been charged with second-degree sexual assault by correctional staff and delivering illegal articles to inmate.
