BROWN DEER -- A mother, visiting her sons from out of state, is accused of stabbing her two teenaged sons in the Brown Deer home where they live with their aunt.

"Obviously a very traumatic incident, you know, being involved in a situation where you're hurt by your mom," said Brown Deer police Lt. Lisa Kumbier.

The victims are 16 and 18 years old. Police say their mother took off after the stabbing. She was later arrested in Milwaukee.

Brown Deer police tell us the teens themselves called 911, desperate for help after a visit with their mom turned violent. Neighbors tell us the boys moved in several years ago with their aunt. Their mom has been visiting for the past month.

"She doesn't live at the home. She's from out of state and the boys actually live with another family member," said Lt. Kumbier.

Around midnight, the teens began to argue and their mom stepped in.

"There was some money missing and I think the boys maybe were disagreeing about what had happened to the money or where it was and then mom came into the picture and this verbal argument escalated to a physical altercation," said Lt. Kumbier.

Police say the mom used a kitchen knife to stab her 16 year old in his face and head, and the 18 year old in his leg. He's just a week away from joining the military. Neighbors tell us they believe this isn't the first time the mom has hurt her children.

"Oh, it's really shocking. I mean you hear so many things going on in Milwaukee and kids being shot," said Julius Kasombo, neighbor.

Police say the 16 year old has already been released from Children's Hospital, but the 18 year old remained hospitalized Friday afternoon.

"We just wanna reassure citizens and residents that the situation is under control and people are safe," said Lt. Kumbier.

And the mom remains in custody Friday tonight. Charges are pending.
