MILWAUKEE - The suspect police believe is responsible for the fatal hit-and-run crash that happened at 12th and National just after 10 p.m. on Sept. 28 is in custody, according to Lt. Mark Stanmeyer with Milwaukee Police.
"Two pedestrians were crossing National Avenue southbound when they were struck by a westbound cargo van. The van fled after the crash," Stanmeyer said.
A 39-year-old man died from his injuries, and a 42-year-old woman from Milwaukee is still in the hospital.
"The suspect, a 43-year-old man, drove the van to his home on Milwaukee's south side and parked the van in his garage after the crash," Stanmeyer added. "The suspect turned himself in to Milwaukee Police shortly after noon Sunday after he read about the crash on a news ticker on a morning newscast."
The crash is still under investigation.
