Sheboygan changes parade policy after July 4 complaints

SHEBOYGAN - Mayor Mike Vandersteen of Sheboygan has announced that parade-goers can again set up for parades hours before the parade begins.

Residents were upset that police removed blankets and chairs from the July 4 parade route, and the city has decided to back off their policy, according to the Sheboygan Press.

The new rules will come with a few addendums. Parade-goers cannot set up prior to four hours from the start of the parade, and will be asked to "reserve a reasonable space."

“We are trying to balance police department concerns about conflicts that arise when spaces along the parade route are reserved more than a day in advance with citizens’ desires to get a good place to watch our excellent parade on the Fourth,” Vandersteen said in a statement.

The new rules will first be in effect for the Bratwurst Day Parade on Aug. 3.
