OCONOMOWOC - Oconomowoc parents are on high alert. Police say a strange woman approached a young child who was walking home from Park Lawn Elementary Thursday. The school sent a cautionary letter home to parents.

“It feels like a safe community until you hear something like this,” says Jennifer Pauloski.

“Everybody takes it very seriously around here when it comes to kids,” adds Jeff Tilden.

“It’s alarming,” says Mike McVey. “Police have been patrolling this area constantly. They were going door to door. They came to my door and asked if anybody had seen a white woman in her thirties, wearing a blue dress with white polka dots.”

That’s the only description they have of the stranger, who investigators say tried to lure a child into her dark SUV or truck, which has a damaged rear bumper.

The woman offered candy, and asked the child questions like where do you live, and what’s your phone number?

Luckily, that child knew to run home and tell an adult. School leaders hope it serves as a lesson for all families, especially when someone suspicious could be lurking close-by.

“This is a good reminder to have that discussion with kids about not talking to strangers,” McVey says.

The investigation is still ongoing. If you know anything about this mysterious woman, or notice anyone suspicious in the area, you’re urged to call Oconomowoc Police.
