WHITEFISH BAY -- Positive signs today that the latest crypto outbreak is behind us.
First, the North Shore Health Department stopped testing people for the illness. This effectively ends a near two-week period where nurses confirmed cases of Cryptosporidiosis in Bayside, Fox Point and Whitefish Bay.
In its assessment, the health department speculated the virus spreads through personal contact and water.
Officials wouldn't target any one place as the source of the outbreak, but the Jewish Community Center in Whitefish Bay still took responsibility. Today, the JCC reopened its pool area after a 10 break to sanitize it.
Executive Director Mark Shapiro tells TODAY'S TMJ4 crews instituted a series of CDC-recommended protocols, including draining pools and "supershocking" them with chlorine.
