SHOREWOOD -- A Shorewood store owner is watching the escalating situation in Ukraine closely.
Nikolay Rogovskiy runs Russian Food & Gifts on Oakland Avenue. He was born in Ukraine, and he has family and friends watching the chaos unfold firsthand.
"[My relatives are telling me] that it's very good that we're here--meaning us being in the United States," Rogovskiy explained.
The day-to-day conflict in Rogovskiy’s home country is the talk of his store.
Many customers, he tells TODAY’S TMJ4, are worried about what could happen if the situation gets out of hand.
"One thing I can tell you for sure is I'm praying everyday that nothing happens to either of the countries. Russia or Ukraine," he explained.
With no end in sight, Rogovskiy is simply hoping for one goal: peace.
“I want them to come to a mutual decision to get everything taken care of in that country,” he explained.
