WAUKESHA - The woman who found Kathryn Stalbaum's bicycle in her boyfriend's front yard is understandably shaken.
She told TODAY's TMJ4 off-camera that the bike was discovered in a landscaped area and she spotted it around 9:30 Thursday morning. The bushes where the bike was abandoned are barren.
It's across the street from Waukesha Memorial Hospital and now deputies plan to look through surveillance video from the hospital.
The last time anybody heard from Kathryn was Tuesday morning. She missed the bus and texted a friend that she planned to ride her bicycle to school. But, she never showed up.
Our cameras captured Waukesha County sheriff's deputies on patrol in the area where the bicycle was found.
Neighbors did not want to talk on camera, but told us they're concerned. They are praying for her safe return.
Kathryn's family has also not spoken publicly about her disappearance, but sheriff's deputies say they are fully cooperating in the investigation. They are the ones who positively identified Kathryn's bicycle.
"The family was brought to uh take a look at it. They were pretty sure it was and the uh, they gave us a recommendation on the combination and that opened the lock on the bike lock," said Eric Severson, Waukesha county sheriff's department inspector.
Severson also told the public what they can do to help.
"They can help us by paying attention to the areas that we feel are important and right now we feel the city of Waukesha is an important place to be paying attention to right now," said Severson.
The sheriff's department still doesn't know whether Kathryn ran away or something else happened to her. They say her family has a message for her, if somehow she is able to hear it:
"Her family is very anxious to see her come home. She's in no trouble," said Severson.
Crimestoppers is now offering a reward in the case, up to $1,000. You can text your tips to the word CRIME.
