EAGLE - A trail ride turned into chaos after a lightning strike sent riders on horseback flying.

It happened in Eagle, Wisconsin on the southern edge of the Kettle Moraine Forest.

Jeremy Olson said his wife and daughter were with four others on the ride when bad weather rolled in. "the events happened so fast, it just turned into complete chaos," said Olson.

The Muskego man said his family was returning with the group when a bolt of lightning struck nearby.

The energy from the lightning traveled along the rain-soaked trail and jolted the horses and the riders.

Olson says his wife blacked out, but his daughter remembers seeing the burst of light. Two women including Olson's wife were taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

Both were kept for observation overnight, but are expected to be ok.

Several horses were also hurt. Two suffered burns around the eyes and mouth.
