GERMANTOWN - Four basketball players from Germantown High School have been arrested for possession of marijuana, according to police.
Police performed a traffic stop Thursday morning near Mequon Road and Goldendale Road when they detected "a strong odor of marijuana."
Six people were in the car, and all of them were arrested. Five were cited with possession of marijuana - they have already been booked and released. One person was arrested for possession with intent to deliver and was transported to Washington County Jail.
Germantown is scheduled to take on Whitefish Bay Friday night. It wasn't immediately clear when or if the athletes would be allowed to play.
At Germantown’s Friday home game against Whitefish Bay, parents were stunned by the developments.
“This is an opportunity for them to think about what they’ve done, and hopefully they’ve learned from that,” said Angela Kelly, who has a nephew on the team.
“To go from a real positive image of the school, and having the excitement of having the winning streak and so forth, to having something like this happen is disappointing,” explained Germantown dad Eric Decker.
