It's a cold job, but the city says it must be done.
City of Milwaukee workers were bundled in several layers this morning fixing popped cables, due to the subzero weather.
"You've just got to do your job," said Jim Hoefer, a city electrical worker. "It's what we're here for. We're here to keep the street lights going."
With frostbite able to set in a matter of minutes, workers rotate shifts and keep an eye on one another.
"They're out here everyday, no matter if it's raining, snowing or bitter cold like today," said George Berdine, an electrical services manager. "On a day like today, it's emergency work only."
