MILWAUKEE -- Four Milwaukee police officers were injured in a car accident Monday morning on Milwaukee's north side.
A stolen minivan rammed into an MPD police van around 3:30 a.m. The police van, transporting a female prisoner to the hospital for a checkup, then smashed into a traffic light pole at 35th and Brown Streets.
A Milwaukee police department lieutenant confirms to TODAY'S TMJ4 that three people rode in the stolen minivan as it ran a blinking red stop light at Brown Street. The police van, which did not flash lights of sound sirens, had the right of way and a blinking yellow light on 35th Street.
Officers said the three suspects had just stolen the minivan before the crash.
After a foot chase, the three suspects are now in custody.
The injured officers and the transferring prisoner suffered minor to moderate injuries. All four officers were conveyed to a hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
Three of the officers have since been released and one continues to receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
