MILWAUKEE - iPhones are becoming popular targets for thieves. But there are ways you can fight back using your iPhone.

Richard Tijerina has never had his iPhone stolen, and hopes it never happens. Although he tells TODAY’S TMJ4 that he almost lost his previous phone.

“My last phone, I left it in a Journeys store,” explains Tijerina. “And I ended up not having it for a couple of days."

Now he uses the Find My iPhone app. All he had to do is install it and the phone's GPS system will pinpoint it.

Richard has only had his iPhone for a few weeks and doesn't want to take any chances. He decided to download this particular app because it was free.

There are other apps out there to help track your phone if it gets stolen. Gadget Trak is a paid app. It has a built-in camera and can even snap a photo of the thief and e-mail it back to you. Device Locator is another option. It saves the last location of the phone. A West Bend man who was recently robbed at gunpoint recovered his iPhone four hours later because he had the same app Richard now has. Now if Richard loses his iPhone, he’s not says he’s not too worried.

“I'm pretty confident. I think most people are good about returning someone's phone depending on who they are," adds Tijerina.

Other steps you can take when you lose your iPhone would be to change your passwords, notify the police, and alert your cell phone company.
