Federal budget cuts could hurt Wisconsin air shows

MILWAUKEE - The sequester could impact some upcoming Wisconsin air shows.

Due to federal budget cuts, the Air Force Thunderbirds are expected to stand down effective April 1.

The Thunderbirds are scheduled to appear at the EAA AirVenture and the Milwaukee Air & Water Show this summer.  Both venues downplayed the possibility of missing out on the planes.

"The AirVenture is not beholden to the appearance of military aircraft," EAA spokesman Dick Knapinski told me.  "We also have five months to see what (what happens).  That makes a big difference."

The Thunderbirds are expected to headline the Milwaukee Air & Water show following the AirVenture.

"We are continuing to move forward with this year's Milwaukee Air & Water Show schedule," President Paul Rodgers said in a statement.  "We have not been informed of any changes.  We look forward to continuing to provide a leading air show to the Milwaukee community."
