MILWAUKEE - The Pope has picked a man from Milwaukee to become a cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Pope Benedict XVI picked Archbishop James Harvey, 63, to join the College of Cardinals.

Cardinal-Elect Harvey has most recently served as Prefect of the Papal Household in Rome since 1998.

"Archbishop Harvey has been a dedicated and faithful servant to the universal Church and it is a tribute to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee that a native son has been named a Cardinal of the Church," said Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki in a statement.

"Cardinal-elect Harvey has always kept Milwaukee his home and made sure he remained connected to the Church of his home diocese."
