MADISON- Eight people have filed nomination papers to run in the recall election against Scott Walker.

The Government Accountability Board was reviewing the signatures submitted before Tuesday's deadline to determine if they had the 2,000 required to get on the ballot.

Democrats who filed are Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, Secretary of State Doug La Follette and state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout.

Gladys Huber is a Republican who is running as a Democrat as part of a state GOP plan to ensure there is a primary.

Arthur Kohl Riggs, a protester who frequently videotapes newsmakers in the Capitol, filed to run as a Republican.  But Michael Mangan of West Allis, who also filed as a Republican, had only 303 valid signatures.

Hariprasad Trivedi filed as an independent.

Former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk turned in the maximum number of signatures, 4,000.  State Senator Kathleen Vinehout also turned in 3,300 signatures to get her name on the ballot.  The Associated Press notes that Secretary of State Doug La Follette turned in signatures on Tuesday morning.  Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett had his wife Kris, and former Lt. Gov Barbara Lawton turn in his signatures Tuesday afternoon.

Anyone can challenge those signatures.

For Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, this is his third run at governor.  He talked about his most recent run after winning last Tuesday's mayoral election.  "I stand before you tonight as a person who has brought this city together," announced Barrett.  "Now it's our challenge to bring this state together."

Congressman David Obey endorsed Barrett for governor Monday.

Kathleen Falk is making sure her message gets across to voters.  "I have a proven track record. I have ideas," said Falk.

Falk has the support of many unions in Wisconsin.

The recall primary is May 8, with a general election set for June 5.

Meanwhile, Republicans are submitting signatures to enter fake or place-holder candidates into the recall races as Democrats.  They say they are doing so to ensure all recall races are on the same day.

Governor Scott Walker is campaigning on Tuesday -- his first stop was in Dane and then on to Eau Claire.

Also, three Democratic state Senate recall challengers filed signatures on Tuesday.
