Bob Uecker broadcasting despite son's death

By Michele Fiore. CREATED Apr 7, 2012

MILWAUKEE - Just one day after losing his son, Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker made a decision to spend time at Miller Park Saturday.

Before Game Two between the Brewers and Cardinals got underway, Uecker stopped in the dugout where players and staff members wished him well.

Later, Ueker was back in the radio broadcaster's booth, performing his usual duties.

In a statement from the Brewers, Ueker said his son, 52 year old Steve Ueker died Friday from complications due to San Joaquin Valley fever.

Bob Ueker thanked the staff at Froedtert Hospital for their efforts.

San Joaquin Valley fever is caused by a fungus that can enter the body through the lungs.
