SHOREWOOD- The Shorewood neighborhood where the chase ended is typically quiet. Residents couldn't believe it.
Barry Zellmer rushed to see what happened outside his front door. He knew something big went down.
"All of a sudden you heard the sirens. Cops went that way, they turned that way," Zellmer says pointing with his finger.
Police chased four people they say tried to steal a vehicle in Whitefish Bay. A witness scared them off and called police providing a description of the suspect's minivan.
An officer later spotted the suspect's caravan and another caravan following. That's when both vans sped off, losing control and crashing in Shorewood, one at Marlborough Drive and Congress; the other at Sheffield and Wilson, where the suspects ran off. "One ran straight across. The other one got caught on the grass," Shorewood resident George Riesz says.
Police arrested three suspects at the scene, one who ran toward Estabrook park is still on the loose. "Not too much happens like this in Shorewood," Zellmer says.
Police say both caravans are stolen.
