MADISON- Petitions have been made public in the recall of Governor Scott Walker.  Those petitions went online Tuesday evening.

If you're trying to look at the petitions and the signatures on them, it's been slow going.

There is no search engine, and you have to search through more than 150,000 pages on .pdf files.

The decision has created quite a controversy.  In the Story Hill neighborhood near Miller Park there are signs everywhere to recall Walker and sign the petition.

Patti Engbring not only signed, but she helped collect hundreds of names.  She doesn't recall anyone be worried about privacy issues when signing, but she understands people's worries about the names going public online.

"I think people are concerned about it being that easily accessible because the internet can be a scary place for lot of people," said Engbring.

Many people had plenty to say on the decision on the 620WTMJ and TODAY'S TMJ4 Facebook pages.

"Thanks for doing your job, GAB.  Should we clap now?" - Desirae

"If you sign the petition, your name should be public record, otherwise what do you have to hide?" - Randy

The GAB delayed posting the names and addresses after privacy issues were raised by victims of violence or abuse but later decided: "we can ensure the rights of individuals to participate in the political process without endangering their safety..."

Wisconsin's Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen agrees, saying, "It would be contrary to Wisconsin law.  Our law is very clear that the maximum amount of information should be made available."
