Elderly man dead in West Bend after crash on STH 144
WEST BEND- Washington County authorities report they had their 11th traffic fatality of 2011 following a two-car head on collision in the Town of West Bend. The accident occurred on December 13, 2011 at 11:35 a.m. on STH 144 six-tenths of a mile south of Cedarview Rd.
Authorities report a southbound passenger car was being operated by a 29-year-old man from West Bend. The man became distracted by the lake scenery to the east of STH 144 when his vehicle crossed left of center and struck a northbound pickup truck being operated by an 81-year-old man from the town of Polk.
The 81-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County Medical Examiner. Both men were wearing their seat belts. Pending autopsy results on the victim, alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the accident. Inattentive driving appears to have been the primary factor in the accident.
Slinger FD and Lifestar Rescue responded to the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Washington County Crash Reconstruction Team. Names are being withheld pending notification of relatives.
