MOUNT PLEASANT - An official with the Wisconsin State Patrol has confirmed that a man died in a crash on State Highway 20 in Racine County.
The official told TODAY'S TMJ4's Melissa McCrady that the man and his dog both died.
The 35-year-old man was from Kenosha County. He died at the crash scene.
They were inside the car that collided with a semi truck while it was trying to cross State Highway 20 at County Highway C at about 8:35 a.m. Monday.
"He did not apply the brakes," said Wisconsin State Trooper Matthew Barlar.
"If he was slowing down, he did not apply the brakes hard enough to leave skidmarks."
No one else was inside the car. The force of the crash knocked the roof off the car.
Officials had to close the westbound lanes because of the crash for several hours.
The semi driver was not injured. He is 51 years old, from Kansasville.
Authorities are still trying to figure out who caused the crash.
