  • GREENDALE - Police in Greendale were taking Tuesday morning to investigate a deadly collision where a food delivery car struck and killed an elderly pedestrian.

  • The crash happened Monday night near Southridge Mall.

  • Police said that Beatrice Salo, an 82-year-old woman, was crossing the street at the intersection of South 68th Street and West Grange Avenue, blocks from Southridge.

  • A Jimmy John's delivery car then hit and killed her. Investigators found the woman's purse and shoes lying on the ground.

  • According to police, the woman lived in the area. Authorities confirmed later Tuesday morning that the driver had the green light when he struck the woman, and she was wearing dark clothing. Police believe she was in the crosswalk when the car hit her.

  • The Wisconsin State Patrol came out to reconstruct the scene. No witnesses saw the collision, but one woman saw the commotion after the crash.

  • "As they were covering it up, the officers then built a tent...and they started taking pictures in the front of the car that (was) the only one at the scene," witness Alex Linhart told TODAY'S TMJ4's Keller Russell.

  • Police said the driver took a few minutes to stop his car, but he is being cooperative. According to authorities, alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash.
