Idgie and Ruth may not be of the same species, but that doesn't mean they don't love each other.

Idgie the Dachshund and Ruth the cat were found three months ago on the side of a road in Osteen, Florida.

The pair was adopted by Hollywood Houndz and named after Idgie Threadgoode and Ruth Jamison, the two women in the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" who share a special bond.

This is no normal cat-dog relationship. It's not unknown for animals of different species to develop attachments, but this goes much deeper. That is because Ruth is partially paralyzed.

Ruth can only move by dragging herself along by her front legs. Her back legs are totally useless.

Hollywood Houndz say the special duo share almost everything, and Idgie is very protective of Ruth and makes sure that no other dogs bother her.

The two have become somewhat of an attraction in the town of Lake Mary, Fla., and people often come in just to see the unusual pair. Visitors even brought Idgie and Ruth Christmas gifts.
