  • This photo of the Catalina mountains was taken a few years ago.  I thought a cool view would be most appropriate this time of year.  I believe the lower clouds are called Pogonip. Wikipedia Encyclopedia explains that pogonip occurs when the humidity is near 100% and the temperature drops to well below 32 degrees, allowing ice crystals to form in the air.  The ice crystals will then settle onto surfaces.  The word pogonip is derived from the Shoshone word paγi̵nappi̵h, meaning cloud.  Supposedly, early settlers called it Dennis Manley
