NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A large party turned deadly early Sunday morning after police said a 20-year-old was shot and killed in the front yard of a home on Summit Oaks Drive.
According to investigators with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, 20-year-old Carlos Gomez of West Nashville died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being shot around 1:30 a.m.
Authorities were called to the home after neighbors heard multiple gun shots.
Gomez was found lying in the front yard of the home after being shot in the head. There were reports of an arugument before the gunshot.
Police have not identified the shooter.
Witnesses told NewsChannel 5 that Gomez saw a man take out a pistol and tried to stop the man from firing when he was shot. Neighbors also said there were dozens of people, most of them teenagers, attending the party at the time of the shooting.
On Sunday multiple beer cans were still visible in the front yard of the home.
