Family Searching For Answers After Dog Shot, Killed

By Chris Conte. CREATED Jul 31, 2014

CRIEVE HALL, Tenn. - A Nashville couple is heartbroken after someone came into their fenced in backyard on Wednesday, shooting and killing their three-year-old dog.

"I came out and I saw blood on the patio and on her paw, I didn’t know what happened, I thought she got bit by a snake," explained Callie's owner Jeremy Franks-Snow.

Jeremy said it was just after 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when he noticed his Weimaraner lying next to his porch in pain.

The family lives at the end of Danby Drive in Crieve Hall.

"She tried to move and I said her name and she opened her mouth but there was a puncture wound in her chest. I just felt helpless, I felt like there’s something I should be able to do and I felt like I had to do everything I could. When we got to the vet they asked if I wanted to resuscitate her and I said ‘I want to save her,"' the 29-year-old said holding back tears.

Callie died on her way to the Emergency Vet Clinic.

"The X-rays show the projectile went pretty deep into her chest, she was full grown and I don’t see any reason why what killed her couldn’t kill a person," Jeremy added.

Jeremy and his wife Julie think someone may have confused Callie for a neighbor's dog that barks frequently.

"Who shoots someone’s dog at three in the afternoon? Why would you do that?" his wife Julie said. "This morning when I came out here with my dogs, I actually thought ‘I hope someone doesn’t shoot me in my back yard.'"

Jeremy and Julie have offered a $500 reward for anyone who has information about what happened to Callie. You can contact them at
