Speed May Have Been Factor In Crash That Killed 3-Year-Old
NASHVILLE. Tenn. – Speed may have been a factor in a fatal crash that took the life of a 3-year-old girl Monday afternoon.
It happened on Bull Run Road around 3 p.m. in northern Davidson County.
Metro police have identified the girl as Vanessa Leon.
Police said the girl's mother, Dolores Garcia, entered a curve, left the roadway, and struck a utility pole.
Vanessa was in a rear child safety seat that dislodged and struck the back of the driver's seat.
She was taken to Monroe Carell Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, where she died.
Garcia also suffered serious injuries in the crash. She was wearing her seat belt.
Police said there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs at the scene, but said excessive speed may have played a role in the crash.
