Taylor Swift pushes elevator button, Internet explodes

By Phyllis Stark. CREATED Aug 4, 2014

With just a few months to go until Taylor Swift is expected to drop her next album, even the slightest hint at information about it gets media and bloggers buzzing. Exhibit A: this social media post from Ms. Swift posted on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook late Monday morning.

In it, we see a finger (presumably Taylor’s) pushing an elevator button marked 18. The short video is captioned with the cryptic message “So, here’s your first clue …”
That alone cause the World Wide Web to explode, with everyone from Perez Hilton to The Hollywood Reporter posting breathlessly speculative stories about what it all could mean. Some even analyzed the number of times the finger pushes the button (six) as a possible clue to … well, something.
Could “18” be an album or single release date? A song title? The number of tracks on the album? The number of times Taylor tried out a song on her cats before deciding to cut it? The number of shoes she tried on before choosing what to wear in the studio?
Albums typically release on Tuesdays, and November 18 is a Tuesday, so we’ll add to the rampant speculation out there by posing the theory that that’s the album release date.
