GREEN BAY - Sometimes, all the intrigue of Packers training camp can seem like a soap opera, with the twisting plot lines and their interrelationships.
Our Lance Allan and Larry McCarren sifted through them in the latest edition of "Tracking the Pack," including the most critical position on the Packers should Aaron Rodgers get injured - backup quarterback.
"Listening to Mike McCarthy talk, it seems like he's intrigued with Vince Young, and he's going to give him a long leash," said Larry.
"He's well aware of unique abilites that Vince Young could possibly bring to the party. I think Vince Young is going to get every opportunity to do so."
That might not be good news for Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman, the incumbent backups.
Then, there's the most critical position in making sure Aaron Rodgers doesn't get injured - left tackle.
Larry thinks that there's an even higher threshold of greatness for rookie David Bakhtiari than what he showed in the preseason loss to Arizona.
"I think he's better than what he played. He got the job done, but I've seen him in practice be more precise with his technique, his footwork, his hand placement, be more aggressive in the running game."
Then, there's Johnny Jolly, the defensive lineman who missed years with the Packers after drug offenses landed him in jail. Larry thinks there's reason to believe Jolly may have a chance.
"I have seen some signs of life this week as far as suddenness...the explosive quickness to shock and shed blockers," said Larry.
"This week, during one-on-one pass rush, I've seen that burst from Johnny Jolly. That will go a long way to whether he can actually come back and be an effective player in the NFL again."
