Tracking the Pack - Episode 2: Rookies stepping up and a QB duel
GREEN BAY - After one week of camp, former Packers center and current analyst/reporter Larry McCarren has discovered which rookies are making the biggest impressions, along with what he sees as a close battle for the No. 2 quarterback job.
When it comes to rookies, first-rounder Datone Jones is showing his first-round-level prowess.
"He looks like a keeper. I like the way he practices...brings his ability to the party every day. He has had some outstanding individual practices," Larry told TODAY'S TMJ4's Lance Allan.
So has 2nd round pick Eddie Lacy at times, despite photos which went viral this past week showing a level of girth not normally associated with productive NFL running backs.
"Eddie Lacy is not a slim guy...but out of football shape? I don't think so," said Larry.
"The last few days have been the best few days of camp."
He also praised offensive lineman David Bahktiari, discussed the "nip-and-tuck" nature of the battle between backup QB's Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman...and yes, fans, Larry even played a ukelele, furthering his growing reputation for musical performance.
